To the Editor: Favors proposed 28th Amendment

Our government is in shambles and elected officials are to blame for much if not all of our troubles. We the citizens must take some responsibility as we elected them to office and many do not voice our concerns. More and more perks afforded to our senior elected officials are being brought to light. We now understand that most of these officials feel they are somehow better than their constituents and therefore not held to the same rules. Heathcare, children's tuition, retirement income, pay raises, it goes on and on.
The following is a proposal spreading throughout the nation. Can we all agree and force this into law?
"Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

Even the folks to the left of center should agree with this Amendment. I even think that Chris could get behind this proposal.

Really Brian . . . Occupy Wall Street? This idea has existed and has swirled around the 'forwarded email' world for the last ten plus years off and on. Remind me, Occupy Wall Street began when??

What is the difference in effectiveness between forwarded-email and actual person-to-person discussions and action?

OWS has been pushing this to become a reality.

Now go back to your forwarded e-mails you might will the lottery and have good blessings.

I contend that a Constitutional Amendment already exists that would address this severe abuse of the public's trust--the Fourteenth Amendment. The Equal Protection Clause essentially states that all laws shall be applied evenly. Unfortunately, it would seem that this argument has never been made on behalf of the citizenry. Remember that the actions of the government are assumed constitutional until black-robed elites dictate otherwise.

State employees (and others) do not contribute to Social Security--I demand equal protection! There are countless examples like this, where special interest groups, political allies, and large-scale monetary donors are afforded special treatment and political favors due to their access to the political structure.

State employees pay into and receive benefits from their own retirement program. If congress would act appropriately, ss would be in better shape. As far as special interests, elites, etc., they're the only ones stepping up to the microphone. Everyone else is sitting at home waiting for their Obama Bucks and talking on their Obama Phones.

Like I stated, we need equal protection. We should have the right to have our own retirement and stop funding the ss fund, as it has been plundered by a corrupt gov. If its good enough for state employees, then it is good enough for us--or vice-versa. Consistency--is it too much to ask?

Special interests and elites, in matters such as this, TAKE their "obama phone" by building favoritism and special perks into legislation--something the taxpaying citizens suffer for. This is a prime example of corruption that transcends party politics, since both of the flawed political parties engage in this reprehensible behavior. Corrupt to the core!--SERIOUSLY!
