To the Editor: Environmental group praises Gardner

Recently a letter to the editor commented on State Representative Randy Gardner's vote on a key issue facing the Ohio General Assembly.
As the legislative director of the Ohio Environmental Council, I know first hand that Gardner does not agree with us all of the time.  But we have found him to be an important champion on a number of issues as we work toward a cleaner environment.
Just this year, Gardner helped write an amendment to the state budget bill to maintain the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves.  In addition, he sponsored an amendment on the floor of the Ohio House to protect Ohio's state nature preserves from any threat of oil or natural gas drilling.  He won overwhelming bipartisan support for his amendment.
Passing these laws will pay important dividends for the continued protection of the last remnants of "the real Ohio"-the old-growth forests, original prairie, wetlands and rock formations that look the same today as when settlers first gazed upon them.
I just wanted Wood County citizens to know that Gardner works to find areas of agreement and compromise with our organization as often as he can.  We appreciate his commitment to a positive working relationship and constructive cooperation and compromise.
