If I am going to use a public forum to bring attention to another public entity, it is incumbent upon me to recognize that same entity for taking action. I would like to thank all the members of the Perrysburg City Council for voting 7-0 in favor of adding the position of School Resource Officer to the city's budget. I am grateful that none of the council members dug in their heels in the face of pressure, but looked to the better protection of the students under their care and made what I am convinced is the right decision.
The parents and the students of the Perrysburg Schools should be pleased at the leadership shown by council in this matter. The Juvenile and CYCLE Divisions of my office look forward to the naming of the SRO and the opportunity to work with that officer. In that spirit of cooperation, I hope we can help foster a greater relationship of trust and safety between law enforcement and the youth of our community.
