I typically am not one to write letters but since my parents are still talking about it I figured I would write a quick note about our experience in Bowling Green two weeks ago. We brought our team from Copley, Ohio (just west of Akron) to BG for the State Championships run by Dave Whitmire and Tim Dunn. I have coached all three of my sons in competitive travel baseball over the last 15 years. Of all the tournaments I have been to, this years 11U state tournament was easily the best run tournament. No, our team didn't win it all. As a matter of fact, after we won our pool we lost our first elimination game. So this letter has nothing to do with our success but everything to do with what Dave and Tim and their staff did to provide everyone with a great experience. Myself and all coaches were welcomed by Dave and Tim and their staff at a Wednesday night coaches meeting where we were served pizza and subs (a treat unheard of at other tournaments). These men went over the policies and procedures and told us exactly what to expect over the next 4 days. When you have 71 teams in town for 4 days playing a hundred and some games the workload is phenomenal. Yet every field was prepped and ready for play within minutes of the previous game ending. Umpires were always on time and ready for play. Staff was visible all through the park and available for questions. Basically, everything they told us would happen...did happen! You can not pull this off without great leadership and workers who respect that leadership. Dave and Tim went above and beyond to make sure over 700 11 yr old boys and their families would have a great experience full of great memories. They succeeded!! Hats off to Dave and Tim and everyone who worked at this years tournament. Tom Brennan Copley Indians 11U Head Coach |
