I am disappointed to see that BGSU has chosen to spend more money on Dining Services while they are in a budget crisis. Reasons to outsource Dining Services were:
a) access to management experience - this already exists.
b) access to ever changing market strategies - which they were already doing.
c) maintain a local student centered approach - which has been occurring for 25 years.
The only "real" advantage is buying power.
I have eaten in all the dining halls, many of the snack bars and found the food nutritious with great presentation and a warm and friendly staff. It was a nice feeling to have the staff know you and the cashier to say thanks with a smile.
If the administration finds Dining Services to currently be "sub-par" then they should join one of the Armed Services and eat in one of their "chow halls."
After all, we all make choices in the foods we eat and don't like everything that is served on a particular day. We eat where the food is tasty and served in a cheerful manner and students choices are just the same. They didn't like what mom fixed all the time.
Perhaps all students should eat in one of the small group units where they buy and prepare the foods they like, mostly fried.
One other thing that does not set well with students is closing all the dining halls on the day of a home football games and wanting students to eat at the stadium.
