It's time to stand up and be counted, Bowling Green.
Fracking is starting to come into Northwest Ohio.
We need to act now to ban fracking within the city limits of  Bowling Green.
Sign the petition that is being circulated.
The petition proposes a community bill of rights charter amendment that deals with prohibiting or limiting gas and oil industry "fracking" and related operations within Bowling Green's city limits.
The petition will put this proposed charter amendment on the November ballot for a public vote.
Fracking is a process whereby brine, sand and chemicals are force-injected deep underground in order to horizontally fracture geologic formations in order to release shale oil and gas.
Forced deep-well injection of fracking wastewater, from Pennsylvania in part, into Ohio wells, may have been the cause of twelve earthquakes in Youngstown last year.
Local control of state-protected oil and gas industry activities was taken away from Ohio communities in 2004. The oil and gas industry's exploration and extraction needs preempt local zoning ordinances.
July 14 is the deadline for collecting signatures.
