To the Editor: BG needs to follow state gun laws

0

In the wake of the recent mass shooting/stabbing incident, the gun-ban fanatics have shifted into full
assault mode, complete with prevaricating politicians and dissembling newshounds. Thank God they’re not
advocating that we ban knives, or we’d soon be cutting our meat with soup spoons!
Locally, our leading gun banners are in fine form. V.N. Krishnan surveys the gun laws of other countries
and concludes our laws are too lax. You will notice he did not mention Mexico, a country with some of
the strictest gun laws in the world, and one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Unfortunately,
Mexican criminals being what they are, they stubbornly refuse to obey those laws. Darn ’em!
Poor Doc Feeman seems perpetually obsessed with concealed carry permit holders and semi-automatic
firearms, which he erroneously refers to as "weapons of mass destruction." In light of the
fact that there are more than 98,000 medical malpractice-related deaths in America every year, (by the
AMA’s own estimate), it’s understandable that Dr. Feeman would rather change the subject. Perhaps we
should label the scalpel a weapon of mass destruction.
Meanwhile the BG city council agonizes over the fact that they are part of the state of Ohio; preferring
instead to be their own little city/state, with their own unique set of laws and ordinances. Thankfully,
preemption laws prevent this sort of insanity from happening, otherwise we would have a hodgepodge of
cities and towns, each with its own set of laws to ensnare the unsuspecting.
While I feel the council’s paranoia over concealed carry in city parks is misguided, I also admire the
underdog, those brave souls who soldier on even when the odds are against them. If the city council
sincerely believes their cause is just, they should declare BG a little fiefdom. They can crown Dick
Edwards king, appoint a royal court, and hire Feeman and Krishnan to be court jesters. Then everyone
will be happy!
