I had the pleasure and privilege of attending camp with the BG City School 5th graders earlier this month. I want to share from a parent's perspective about this wonderful opportunity that our children are given. Heartland Conference Center is an amazing facility with a remarkable staff. They went to great lengths to accommodate all the children and were especially attentive to those with special dietary needs, medical needs or who became sick while at camp. The children were treated with respect and were given responsibilities while there that made them a part of the daily routine. The environmental classes they attended were fun and engaging and the children were able to learn so much by integrating all their senses.
This was a week of growth for the students, as many of them had never spent a week away from home.
I witnessed their resilience, cooperation, concern for one another and sense of pride in the things they accomplished while at camp! And boy could those kids eat!
I want to commend Mr. Offenburg and all the BG faculty and staff who also attended camp. Believe me when I say this was no vacation for them! Our children were in the most capable and loving care and I am so grateful for all the sacrifices they each made to give our children this life changing experience!
