To the Editor: 5th graders should attend camp

For many years the kids at BG city schools have been going to 5th grade camp, but not this year. Many parents and kids feel like they have been stabbed in the back.
Failure of the May levy decided the fate of camp. The reason this distresses parents is because if they had known that the levy would have saved camp they would have gotten more people to vote on the levy.
According to Angela Austin (PTO president), four out of five PTOs have gathered together and have raised enough money for the entire 5th grade to go to camp. So to argue that there is not enough money is invalid. 2009-2010 5th graders should be allowed to go to camp, and then the parents and PTOs can work together to help pass the next levy so budget cuts aren't needed.
