Youngstown State trustees back tuition hike

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — A Youngstown State University
trustees’ committee has recommended that undergraduate students pay $94
more per semester beginning next fall.
The recommendation by the finance and facilities committee also proposes graduate students pay $158 more
per semester.
The Vindicator reports (http://bit.ly/1jlYXU2 )
that the full trustee board must approve the recommendation from this past Thursday.
The
board is scheduled to meet March 12 to consider the proposals, which
raise tuition about 2.4 percent for undergraduates and 3 percent for
graduate students.
The increases will generate about $2 million in
revenue, which officials say is needed to offset declining state
funding and enrollment.
Neal McNally, director of YSU budget
planning and treasury operations, says Youngstown State tuition is
$1,600 below the state average even with the increase.
