HEBRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio Department of Transportation official says a contract worker on a bridge replacement project was struck by a steel beam and died.

ODOT District 5 Deputy Director Joe Rutherford says the accident happened Friday as a crane was used to move a beam at the work site along Interstate 70 south of Hebron, about 30 miles east of Columbus. He says the worker was on a lift. He wasn't sure exactly what went wrong.

The Licking County coroner's office said 34-year-old Micah Montgomery of Waverly died of blunt force injury to the torso from a fall.

Rutherford says the contractor on the project was Double Z Construction of Columbus, which is handling the replacement and widening of two bridges on I-70.

A phone message was left for the company.
