KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a good Samaritan who stopped to help after a two-vehicle crash in West Michigan was struck and killed by one of the vehicles involved.

Kentwood police say 50-year-old Margaret Pittman of Grand Rapids saw the initial accident Thursday afternoon and got out of her vehicle to assist the 76-year-old pickup truck driver involved. When she grabbed the driver's side door handle, the pickup accelerated.

Police say Pittman was run over and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Grand Rapids Press reports the initial collision involved a sport utility vehicle and the pickup. The investigation is ongoing and prosecutors will review the case.
