Weather service: Tornado causes Michigan damage

BRANT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The National Weather Service
has confirmed that a tornado damaged homes, downed trees and knocked out
power in Saginaw County.
The weather service tells The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/1ucab0L ) that an EF-1 tornado struck
around 6 p.m. Wednesday in Brant Township, near St. Charles. One minor injury was reported.
The
weather service says the tornado about 85 miles northwest of Detroit
lasted 13 minutes, traveled about 5 miles and had estimated peak winds
of 90 to 100 mph. It was up to 300 yards wide.
Residents in the
area reported multiple downed trees, damaged houses and a garage blown
off its foundation. The severe weather also left more than 900 Consumers
Energy customers without power.
An EF-1 tornado has estimated winds of 86 to 110 mph with moderate damage.
