USCG unit based on Lake Erie gets new commander

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — A Coast Guard unit based on Lake Erie is getting a new commander.

Cmdr. Gerald Nauert (nart) handed over command of Port Security Unit 309 in Port Clinton on Saturday to Cmdr. Geoffrey Deas (dees).

Nauert has commanded the Port Clinton unit since 2010 and accompanied the unit on a deployment to Kuwait. He has been reassigned to Washington, D.C.

The new commander comes to the Great Lakes from the Coast Guard's Pacific Area.

The chief of operations of the Coast Guard Pacific Area, Capt. Thomas Crabbs, was assigned to preside at the change-of-command ceremony.
