Two teen suspects in Indiana killing arrested in Ohio

HELTONVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Extradition proceedings will begin
this week against two southern Indiana teenagers arrested in Ohio in
connection with the beating death of a man in his remote Lawrence County
home, according to authorities.
Taylor Flynn, 19, and a
16-year-old boy, both of Bedford, were arrested Saturday evening on
murder warrants in Ironton, Ohio, Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig
said.
The two are suspected in the slaying of Rodney Allender, 43,
Craig said. A relative found Allender’s body Thursday night in his
northeastern Lawrence County home about 60 miles south of Indianapolis.
"They’re going to be held in Ohio" over the weekend, Craig told The Times-Mail (http://bit.ly/Nk6pnH ). "The extradition process
will start at the first of the week to see about bringing them back here for their charges."
A
third Bedford-area teen, Austin Curtis, 18, was being held without bond
in the Lawrence County Jail on Sunday, a day after being arrested on
preliminary charges of murder and robbery, Craig said.
An autopsy Friday showed that Allender died from blunt force trauma, the sheriff said.
Money
and guns were taken from the home where Allender, who operated an
excavating and logging business, lived alone on a ridge top, Craig said.
Flynn
and the juvenile were located Saturday evening in Ironton, where one of
the two had an acquaintance, the sheriff said. The two led police there
on a car chase through part of the Ohio River city located about 15
miles west of Huntington, W.Va, and initially evaded officers before
they were captured on foot.
Curtis has an attorney but it wasn’t
clear Sunday who that was, a Lawrence County Jail officer said.
Automated jail records for Flynn and the juvenile did not indicate
whether they had attorneys. The Associated Press typically doesn’t
identify juveniles accused of crimes.
