FREMONT, Ohio (AP) — The State Highway Patrol says two people riding in a van were killed when it was struck by a car traveling more than 125 mph in northwest Ohio.
Troopers were chasing the speeding car when the accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday on the Ohio Turnpike near Fremont.
Officials say the speeding vehicle was traveling between 125 mph and 150 mph and hit at least three other vehicles over the course of 17 miles.
The 24-year-old man allegedly driving that vehicle has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The patrol says the names of the people who died were being withheld until their families could be notified.
The turnpike's westbound lanes were closed for several hours but reopened early Friday.
