RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in northeast Ohio say a train struck a sport utility vehicle at a crossing, killing the 15-year-old driver and injuring her father and four sisters riding with her.

No lights or gates mark the crossing where the collision occurred Sunday evening in Ravenna, roughly 35 miles southeast of Cleveland.

Investigators say the teenager who died had recently received her learner's permit to begin driving. Officials from the Portage County sheriff's office say they think the teenager panicked as the train approached.

Her father and sisters were taken to hospitals. Authorities didn't release information about the extent of their injuries.

The teen was driving on the street where her family lives. Neighbors tell The Record-Courier that trains frequently pass the crossing and use loud horns to alert nearby drivers.
