KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A Kalamazoo woman spent Christmas Day rescuing tropical parrots from a mid-Michigan home and breeding facility that lost power during last weekend's ice storm.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/JhdJOP ) Thursday that bird rescuer Theresa Barylak has transported about 20 parrots to her operation known as Avian Haven. The Lansing home and breeding facility owned by Michelle and Carey Feazel had lost power, and two birds died of exposure to the cold.

Barylak says she hopes the birds will survive and seeks volunteers and cleaning supplies as she prepares appropriate space for them within her sanctuary.
