TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio say a body found in Lake Erie appears to be that of a 12-year-old girl who went missing with her father earlier this month while they were kayaking.

The Erie County Sheriff's office says they think it's the missing girl based on her clothing and jewelry.

The U.S. Coast Guard retrieved the body Friday morning in the open waters of Lake Ere about six miles northeast of the city of Huron.

Authorities and family members say Viola Francis and her father Jonathan Francis never came home after they left on a short kayak trip on April 6.

The pair did not have life jackets when they set out on Sandusky Bay. Two empty kayaks were found the next day.

The man's body has not been found.
