COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a woman whose body was repeatedly run over on a major highway in Ohio's capital city last week got out of a moving vehicle before she was struck and killed.

The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/143B2EZ) reports that police say 22-year-old Jessica Lynn Nichols was traveling northbound on Interstate 71 when she exited the vehicle traveling in the center lane and tumbled into the road shortly before 5 a.m. on Aug. 21. Columbus police say about eight motorists inadvertently ran over her.

Police say a truck driver dialed 911 and said he believed he had struck the body. The newspaper reports that while he remained on the line, other drivers struck Nichols.

News outlets have reported that multiple drivers contacted police saying they thought they might have hit the body.
