Police: One dead, three hurt in Michigan pre-prom party shooting

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — Police say a shooting at a party before a high school prom in Saginaw left a 17-year-old girl dead and three women injured.

MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/13PnAlc ) the shooting happened about 6 p.m. Thursday in a Florence Event Hall parking lot, where hundreds had gathered. Police Sgt. Reggie Williams says there were "multiple shooters," but officials didn't say whether suspects had been identified.

Williams told reporters at the scene about 85 miles northwest of Detroit that the department hadn't confirmed whether the girl who died was a student at Saginaw High School. Police say the women ages 18, 19 and 39 were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Names weren't immediately released.

The school's prom at a banquet center in Saginaw County's Thomas Township went on Thursday night following the shooting.
