ONTARIO, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in north-central Ohio have arrested a man suspected of intentionally setting a fire in a kitchen while his children were inside a home.
The Mansfield News Journal (http://ohne.ws/1cPj6Bf ) reports the 41-year-old man was arrested Monday in Ontario, about 60 miles northeast of Columbus. The warrants included attempted aggravated murder and other charges.
Mansfield police Capt. Ken Coontz says the suspect in the Monday morning fire had refused to cooperate with authorities and fled the scene. Coontz says the fire occurred while the man was watching his children, ages 9 and 13, while their mother was away.
The home's owner, who is not the mother, says someone piled newspapers on the stove and turned on burners.
She says the children escaped safely after a smoke alarm woke the older child.
