CELINA, Ohio (AP) — A shirtless man wearing a cowboy hat and brandishing a gun was shot and killed in a confrontation with police in western Ohio.

Authorities in Celina 39-year-old Robert Hensley of St. Marys was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon. The officer involved in the shooting wasn't hurt.

The shooting happened after a 911 caller reported seeing a shirtless man with a gun tucked in his pants, dressed in sandals and shorts and wearing a cowboy hat. The caller said the man was waving the gun but not aiming at anyone.

Shots were fired when the officer approached the man.

The Mercer County sheriff's department is handling the investigation and didn't indicate if the man fired his weapon. The sheriff's office said Thursday there was no update.
