HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) — A Richmond, Ky., couple faces a court appearance in southwest Ohio in connection with the discovery last week of a 1-year-old boy's body in woods near Hillsboro.

Authorities have charged 26-year-old Whitney Johnson and 25-year-old Nathan Ritze with felony counts of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. They have been held without bond pending Wednesday's court appearance.

They were brought from Kentucky on Monday. No attorney was listed for them as of Tuesday.

Police say Johnson told investigators her child had pneumonia. A coroner has said preliminary examination didn't show any obvious physical trauma to the boy's body.

The Montgomery County coroner's office will do extensive lab testing.

Authorities have indicated they suspect the boy, Garin Niehaus, was buried in the wooded area last December.
