Ohio’s capital eyes national political convention

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Republicans and Democrats in Ohio’scapital city are launching a joint effort
to explore landing a nationalpolitical convention for Columbus in 2016.The Columbus 2016coalition will lead
the effort with the support of Mayor MichaelColeman, Columbus Partnership and Experience Columbus, the
city’sconvention and visitors’ bureau.The group said Tuesday thatlanding a convention can mean as many as
45,000 visitors — 15,000 ofthem U.S. and international media — and $150 million to $200 million fora city’s
economy.Ohio, home to eight presidents, has hosted fivenational political conventions. Democrats held theirs
in Cincinnati in1856 and 1880, and Republicans held theirs in Cincinnati in 1876 and inCleveland in 1924 and
