PERRY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old northeast Ohio boy was seriously injured when he was hit by a car that drove around a stopped school bus with warning lights flashing.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said it happened Wednesday afternoon in Perry, northeast of Cleveland, after the freshman student got off the bus.
Witnesses tell the sheriff's office that the silver Chrysler operated by a 28-year-old Perry man disregarded the school bus stop lights and passed it. The car hit the boy, sending him into the windshield and off the side of the road.
The teen was flown to a Cleveland hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The driver's name wasn't immediately released.
The accident occurred during National School Bus Safety Week.
