Ohio kids say they broke Hot Wheels loop record

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — A group of fifth-graders in
suburban Cleveland believe they’ve set a new world record for the
largest Hot Wheels track loop.
After a few unsuccessful attempts, a
Hot Wheels toy car launched from a 24-foot platform raced down the
track to the gym floor and completed the 9-foot, 9-inch loop Monday. The
students watching at Woodbury Elementary School in Shaker Heights, east
of Cleveland, erupted in cheers.
They believe the attempt broke
the previous world loop record of 9 feet, 3 inches. An officer from the
city police department and an accountant were on hand to act as
witnesses for the record-breaker.
The attempt was part of an
overall fundraising effort that also involved the public shaving of
school principal Randall Yates’ mustache. Students raised more than
$12,000.
