Ohio kayaker trying to save dog in lake presumed dead

HILLIARD, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say that two men in a
kayak went into a lake to try to rescue a dog in Hilliard and one
remained missing and was presumed dead.
Franklin County Sheriff
Zach Scott said that 21-year-old Kyle Miller and 19-year-old Austin
Gifford were kayaking in Darby Bend Lakes in the Prairie Oaks Metro
Parks Saturday when they went into the frigid water to rescue the dog.
Scott
says Gifford attempted to rescue Miller before witnesses pulled him
from the water. He was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
A
search for Miller’s body was suspended Saturday because of the depth,
strong winds and underwater currents and was to resume Sunday with more
advanced equipment.
Scott says that Miller is presumed dead.
WSYX-TV reported that the dog also died.
