Officials: At least 22 wolves killed in Michigan hunt

MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) — Michigan authorities say at least 22wolves have been killed in the
Upper Peninsula during the state’s firstwolf hunt in decades.The Michigan Department of NaturalResources
says that’s the total as of Monday morning, up one from lastweek. The department has expressed doubt
that the hunt will reach itsmaximum of 43 by year’s end, when the hunt wraps up. Frigid weatherlikely
has kept the hunt in check.Five of the maximum 16 wolveswere killed in the far western U.P., 14 of 19 in
four central countiesand three of eight in the eastern U.P.The wolf hunting season opened on Nov. 15.
