Lightning hits city elevator shaft, house in Ohio

CINCINNATI (AP) — Lightning strikes from strong wind and
thunderstorms in the Cincinnati area sparked at least two house fires
and struck an elevator shaft at a city building, forcing a brief
evacuation. No injuries were reported.
Heavy rain whipped by winds of more than 40 mph hit the area from about 7:30 a.m. until almost 9 a.m.
Monday.
The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1mQV778
) reports that lightning-caused fires were reported at a house in West
Chester Township just north of Cincinnati and across the river in
Florence, Ky.
Lightning also struck an elevator shaft at Cincinnati City Hall, leading to the brief evacuation of the
building.
The
National Weather Service says the area could be in for more severe
weather through Tuesday as a large storm system moves in from the west.
