Homeless families surge in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (AP) — Advocates for the homeless in Cincinnati say they’re seeing an unprecedented surge in
the number of homeless families in the region.
People who work for agencies that help the homeless tell The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1q1gFTx )
that they’ve never seen so many homeless families crowding shelters and living on the streets.
They say a steady reduction in federal money available to help house the homeless is causing the crisis,
which is also happening in many other places around the country.
The newspaper reports that the $750,000 projected to be available this year to help the keep Hamilton
County families in their homes is one-third of the amount that was available in 2011.
The number of families helped by local agencies has steadily dropped in the recent years.
