INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The National Weather Service says a
central Indiana tornado packed winds estimated at 90 to 100 and traveled
about two miles in Plainfield and Indianapolis.
It said in a statement Wednesday that the tornado rated an EF1 on the Fujita scale.
It
says the tornado damaged more than 200 vehicles at an auto auction
site, threw a camper about 175 feet into the roof of a home, and damaged
nearly two dozen homes in the Plainfield area and two homes on the
Indianapolis west side. It was on the ground for eight minutes Tuesday
afternoon.
The weather service says Indianapolis officials
estimated that a total of 75 to 100 homes received at least minor damage
in the city from the storms accompanying the tornado.
No injuries were reported.
