Car smashes Ohio home, traps people on upper floor

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a car plowed into a suburban Cleveland home and damaged a staircase, temporarily trapping two residents on the upper level of the building.

Authorities say the two were rescued from the Maple Heights home after the crash early Monday.

They weren't hurt. The driver who lost control and sped into the home was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

It wasn't immediately clear whether drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the crash.

WJW-TV in Cleveland reports two houses nearby were evacuated for hours until a resulting gas leak could be addressed.
