Air Force museum in Ohio to open shuttle exhibit

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The National Museum of the U.S. Air
Force in Ohio is ready to launch a mock-up space shuttle exhibit
assembled after a failed bid to get a retiring shuttle several years
ago.
The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/1lHVO1S )
reports the walk-through exhibit opens Feb. 26, giving visitors a peek at a cockpit and cargo bay.
Museum
aerospace educator Cindy Henry says the display built around a cockpit
simulator is the same size as a real shuttle. The NASA space shuttle
trainer acquired by the southwest Ohio museum in 2012 was used by
astronauts to prepare for shuttle missions.
The mock-up includes an engine and tail section, as well as a payload bay with a satellite.
Eventually it’s expected to be part of a sprawling hangar gallery slated to open in 2016.
