3 juveniles faces adult charges in boy’s shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana magistrate has
ordered three juveniles charged in connection with the shooting death of
a 2-year-old South Bend boy be tried as adults.
The St. Joseph
County prosecutor’s office says 17-year-old Malcolm Buchanon,
15-year-old Cedric Washington Jr. and 15-year-old Tyre Bradbury cases
were waived into Superior Court on Friday. Buchanon and Washington are
charged with assisting a criminal and Bradbury with aiding in murder.
Authorities
say 2-year-old John Swoveland Jr. was struck April 9 by a stray bullet
from a gunfight between rival gangs blocks away.
Bradbury was
ordered held without bond. Buchanon was ordered held on $5,000 bond,
while bond was set at $10,000 for Washington, who also has a $1,000 bond
on an unrelated charge.
Five others also are charged in the shooting.
