DETROIT (AP) — A man planning to take his deceased wife's ashes to a memorial service for her mother says his car and the ashes inside it were stolen in Detroit.
WDIV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/197s6xK ) that Jim Meilenner parked his car Monday night in an eastside neighborhood and by the next morning the Pontiac G6 was gone. He was taking his wife's ashes — stored in a wooden box in the trunk — to his mother-in-law's service Wednesday afternoon.
Meilenner says he doesn't care about the car but he seeks the return of the ashes. Hamtramck-based Kaczmarek Law Firm has agreed to accept the ashes with no questions asked.
Meilenner's wife, Cheryl, died six years ago.
