Von was an independent insurance broker and retired in 1995. He served proudly in the Korean War but was most proud of being a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, friend, and a man of deep faith. He was happiest spending time with his family, vacationing in upstate New York and Nashville, TN, singing in the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church, cruising around in his new truck, and talking politics with his cronies at Burger King.
His hobbies included woodworking, boating, fishing, and writing and singing his own songs. Now he’s singing with the angels.
Von was born in 1930, in Wayne, Ohio, to Claude and Maude (Ellsworth) Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Lura Etta, Robert, and Ellsworth.
He married the love of his life and best friend, Jerri Barnes, on December 2, 1950. She survives along with sons, Philip (Jeanni) Tipton of Haskins, and Jeffrey (Christie) Tipton of Portage; grandchildren Bryan (Angie) Johnson, Amy (Bryan) Bressler, Chelsea (Shawn) Dubbert, Joshua (Rachel) Tipton, Kyle (Cindy Moll) Tipton, Jason (Jeannette Karel) Tipton; 15 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Raymond Tipton.
Visitation for Von will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 West Wooster Street/P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, Tele: 419-352-2171. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 200 North Summit Street, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Tontogany Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Von’s honor may be given to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
