 Violet "Vi" Virginia Recker, 92, of Pemberville, formerly of Woodville, Ohio, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, April 27, 2012, at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Village, Pemberville, Ohio, under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio.Born November 20, 1919, in Stony Ridge, Ohio, to Delbert and Anna (Strail) Snyder, she married Wayne "Brownie" Recker and spent many happy years on their farm on State Route 163 in Genoa, Ohio, raising six children. Vi was a graduate of Pemberville High School Class of 1937 and received her teaching degree from Bowling Green State University in 1968. She taught fourth grade at Lake Elementary School in Millbury, Ohio, for 19 years, and after retiring became involved in many community activities. Vi was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, where she taught Sunday School, served on the church board, and was a member and leader of the ELCA Rebekah Circle. She also served as secretary of the Luckey Sunshine Senior Citizens, President of AAL, Oregon, Ohio, served on and was President of Otterbein-Portage Valley Auxiliary, and was a board member at Otterbein-Portage Valley. Her teaching friendships continued as a member of the Retired Wood County Teachers Association. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne, daughter, Constance Keaton and sisters, Hazel Snyder, Zelda Brough, and Genevieve Wagner. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Suzanne (Michael) Pavlica, Elmore, OH, Robert (Linda) Recker, Elmore, OH, Bonnie (Frank) Scheuneman, Fenton, MI, Betty (George) Katakis, Perrysburg, OH, and Jon Recker, Genoa, OH, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Doris Recker, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all Vi's extended family, the Otterbein-Portage Valley staff, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their wonderful love and care. Friends and family will be received at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, from 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2012. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in St. John's Lutheran Church, 5520 Fremont Pike in Stony Ridge, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service; Pastor Daniel Beaudoin to officiate. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury.
