Sophia (Sophie) Jane Olszanski (nee Hendrzak), 92, of Rossford, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 10,
2014 at St. Clare Commons, just short of her 93rd birthday.
She was born on March 15, 1921 in Rossford, Ohio. Her parents were the late Katherine (Gryster) and Frank
Hendrzak.
She was married to John M. Olszanski, at St. Mary Magdalene Church. He preceded her in death on December
3, 1975.
Sophie is survived by her son, Dennis (Barbara Noel) Olszanski of Sanford, Florida; and daughter, Nancy
(Joseph) Nycz of Haskins, Ohio; grandchildren, Douglas (Wendy Hodges) Olin, Deborah (Daniel) Thompson,
Gregory (Allison Muntean) Olin, Jonathan (Mareike Wieth) Nycz, Eric (Tracey Demangos) Nycz, Zachary
(Sarah Heinfeld) Nycz; 12 great grandchildren, Sydney, Jared, Evan, Drew, Brandon, Rex, Hadley, Kai,
Sophie, Caleb, Chloe, and Thalia. Also surviving is her sister, Helen Cincala of Rossford, Ohio, a few
sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Sophie was a hard working woman who was still living in her own home as of December 2013. She will be
remembered for her pierogi, stuffed cabbage, kapusniaki, and kolacky.
She was active in The Ladies Guild at All Saints Catholic Church and a member of The St. Francis Guild in
Sylvania.
Sophie was well known for her beautiful crocheting. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the Rossford
Senior Center and spending time with family and friends.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd., on Friday,
March 14, 2014 from 2 to 8 p.m. where recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
A
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Road, Rossford,
Ohio 43460 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 where the family will greet visitors beginning at 9
a.m.
Private interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or to St.
Clare Commons.
