Ruby E. Gerken, 83, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Henry County Hospital.
She was born on March 11, 1930 in Fulton County to the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Lind) Tilse. On February 12, 1950, she married Lawrence W. Gerken at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon, whom survives in Napoleon.
She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wauseon and a member of the Ladies Guild of the church.
Ruby helped her husband with the family farm for many years. In 1982 Ruby and her husband became the owners and operators of Ruby's Greenhouse. The Lord blessed her with a green thumb and the ability to grow and nurture plants and flowers to share with the general public, friends and family.
She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she adored each and everyone of them. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Napoleon; daughters, Linda (Rick) Hogrefe of Napoleon, Carol Hahler of Bowling Green, Barb (Ron) Snyder of Pemberville, Virginia (Doug) Rettig of Holgate, Judy (Tim) Funchion of Napoleon, Donna (Greg) Smith of Aurora, Ill., Diane (Dave) Johnson of Napoleon; and son, Larry (Krista) Gerken of Napoleon, 22 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Mary Lou) Tilse of Wauseon, sisters-in-law, Velma Gerken, Kay Tilse, and Joan Tilse.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Charles Tilse.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wauseon. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon, and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church.
Suggested memorials are to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Home in Napoleon or to a charity of the donor's choice.
