Ron Sander, age 65, of Maumee, OH, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Veteran's Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.
On January 30, 1948 he was born to Howard and Nellie (Binger) Sander in Findlay, OH.
He was a truck dispatcher for Cimarron Express, Genoa, OH, retiring in 2010.
Ron attended Elmwood High School, West Point Academy and Toledo University. While enrolled in Elmwood High School he was recognized as a three-sport athlete. He received: Basketball All League 1966, Football All League 1964-1965, All District and All State Football 1965, Elmwood's Athlete of the Decade for the 1960s and was named to Elmwood's Wall of Fame.
When Ron talked about sports he was a fanatic and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Elmwood High School fan.
Ron served in the Army Reserves.
Ron is survived by his siblings: Jan Sander of Royal Oak, MI, Ken (Carol) Sander of Port Clinton, OH, Pam Varty of Bloomdale, OH, sister-in-law: Pat (Terry) Martell of Holland, OH, nephews: Bret (Debbie) Sander, Brad (Sheila) Sander, Neil (Chrissy) Sander, Conlan Varty, nieces: Kerry (Shad) Stiger, Ashlee (Kyle) Amspaugh and Morgan Varty.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Howard and Nellie Sander and brother: Elwood Sander.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. Ron's family request visitors to wear OSU, Indians or Brown's attire to the visitation. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pemberville, OH, with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Melanie Haack.
There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the funeral services.
Interment will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloomdale, OH at 2:30 p.m.
Considerations for memorial contributions are to the Elmwood Athletic Department.
