Reverend Robert L. Hopkins, fondly referred to as "Cute Bob," 65, of rural Rudolph, went home to live with his heavenly father on Tuesday, December 4, 2012.
Bob was born in Addison, Michigan to Lawrence and Alta (Yoh) Hopkins. He married Debra Shinew on April 18, 1971 in the South Liberty United Methodist Church and she survives in rural Rudolph.
Also surviving are his daughter, Hope (David) Hopkins-Fawcett of rural Rudolph; father, Lawrence (Edith) Hopkins of Edgerton; brother, Rev. Larry (Sharon) Hopkins of Lima; two grandsons, Thaddeus and Isaac; nieces and nephew, Cheri (Robert) Estle of Oakwood, Lori (Keith) Belcher of Lima, Wendi (Jon) Phillips of Elyria and Dr. Kevin (Connie) Hopkins of North Ridgeville; friends whom he considered to be family, Jennifer (Klingler) and Doug Kin of Deshler and Rev. Jeff and Valli Ridenour and family of Bloomdale; and his K-9 companions Radar and Romeo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alta.
Bob was employed as a Co-Manager at Chief Supermarkets and also worked at Gorny-Winzeler and the Vernon Company.
He was a 1965 graduate of Bryan High School, a 1969 graduate of Owens Technical College and in 2002 received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.
Bob was the pastor at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Oakwood, Ohio, from 1998-2002 and also served as the pastor of Deshler United Methodist Church from 2002-2004. He was a 49-year member of the Faith United Methodist Church, in Bryan, where he served as choir director, lay speaker and taught Sunday School. Bob also was a Lay Speaker for the Defiance District of the United Methodist Church.
Bob was a former member of the Board of Public Affairs in Bryan. He was also a member of the Bryan Kiwanis Club where he was a Past Lieutenant Governor and later a Secretary for the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club. Bob was a member of the South Liberty United Methodist Church in rural Rudolph.
Bob loved his family especially his grandchildren, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Visitation will be Friday, December 7, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 W. Wooster St., PO Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402; Tele: 419/352-2171.
Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the time of Bob's Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the South Liberty United Methodist Church, 7983 Potter Road, Rudolph, with Rev. Garry Yarbrough and Rev. Jeff Ridenour officiating. Burial will follow in Wingston Cemetery.
