Paula J. (Strausbaugh) Kirkland, 54, of Rudolph, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
She was a great source of inspiration and strength to those around her, having survived Hodgkin's Lymphoma (1999) and a quadruple coronary artery bypass (2002). Paula was, then, diagnosed with kidney cancer in June of 2012. Albeit a hard battle, she maintained her dignity and humor throughout her fight. She succumbed peacefully in her home Tuesday afternoon, surrounded by her loving family.
Paula was born on March 4, 1958 to Robert and Wanda Strausbaugh in Bowling Green, Ohio. Paula attended Bowling Green City Schools throughout her educational career, graduating in 1976.
Paula was a family-oriented daughter, sister, mother and grandmother throughout her life. She enjoyed spending her spare time with her grandchildren playing games, cooking, swimming, fishing and attending their many activities. She looked forward to relaxing every Sunday evening around the dinner table with her family; a dinner that turned into an ongoing family tradition.
Paula and her husband spent many years as the owners of Kirk's Coin Laundry in Bowling Green. Over those years many of her customer relationships blossomed into long term friendships. Paula remained close to many of her regular customers even after she relinquished the business due to her illness.
Every Monday night Paula faithfully participated on a bowling team at Al-Mar Lanes. She also spent many evenings playing bunko with a group of close friends. Paula was a proud "river rat" and spent her summers camping with friends and family at Wagner's Camp Ground on the Maumee River.
Paula is survived by the people she adored: her husband, Donald; children, Joshua (Carrie) Houtz, Casey (Kellie) McDole, Dustin (Dawn) Kirkland and Amanda (Nicholas) Brigode; and her six grandchildren, Maclane, Navy, Addison, Preston, Elizabeth and Isabella. Paula was also looking forward to a seventh grandchild expected in June.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Paula's life on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at DUNN FUNERAL HOME, located in Bowling Green's Historical District at 408 West Wooster St. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their diligent and loving end of life care. Any donations can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Paula's name.
On-line condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.dunnfuneralhome.com.
