Norma Cathryn Meister of Waterville, Ohio, formerly of Grand Rapids, Ohio, and Liberty Center, Ohio, died Sunday (July 22, 2012) at home.
Norma was born in Maumee, Ohio, on March 26, 1926, to Leslie C. Tanner and Edith (Appling) Tanner. She married Marvin P. Meister at Whitehouse, Ohio, on February 1, 1945.
Norma worked at Essex Wire in Wauseon, Ohio, for 27 years as a machine operator. She was a member of the IBEW Union and a member of the Women's Auxilliary of the Volunteer Fire Department of Neapolis. She served as president of the Ohio and Northern Michigan Firemen's Auxilliary. Norma was a member of the Kitchen Katies of Neapolis, Ohio, for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin; two sons, James Meredith and Marvin R. (Scrap) Meister; her parents; and sisters, Lillie M. Stephenson, Arlene Tompkins, Cynthia I. Tanner, Mary Evelyn Tanner, and Naomi (Jo) Kessler. She is survived by sisters Marilyn Roach of Napoleon, Ohio, Margaret Baldwin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Velda Haley of Norwalk, Ohio, Janice Conner of Liberty Center, Ohio; also brothers Leslie Carson Tanner of Grand Rapids and Noel Daniel Tanner of Grand Rapids, Ohio; daughter-in-law Nancy J. Meister; grandchildren, Paul Meister of Toledo, Ohio, Donna Spees of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Kenneth Meister of Maumee, Ohio. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and 8 great -great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Wright-Habegger Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second St., Grand Rapids, Ohio, from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the Neapolis Church of Christ, 8221 Main St., Neapolis, Ohio, on Thursday, July 26, 2012.Terry Spiess will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Grand Rapids, Ohio. Memorials may be given to the Neapolis Church of Christ.
