Neil S. Smith, 74, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2013 in Regency Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio.
He was born February 24, 1939 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Lennis and Martha (Wiseley) Smith. He married Eileen Deffenbaugh of Bowling Green in 1958.
Neil worked for the Anderson's in Maumee, Ohio for 47 years and was a lifelong farmer.
Neil was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Portage, where he was a Trustee for many years; Wood County Lodge #112, Bowling Green, Crystal Chapter #157, Bowling Green Council #124 (past Master), Findlay Commanding #49, Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine (past Potentate), Zenobia Cabiri #8, Wood County Scottish Rite (past President), Wood County Shrine Club (past President), Bowling Green Elks Lodge #818, Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association (past Director).
He also loved wood working and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife of Bowling Green, two daughters, Cindy (Larry) Gerken of Bowling Green, Kelli (Mike) Daniels of Portage; a son, Steve (Beth Davis) of Carlsbad, California; brother, Lyle (Barbara) of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Akaicia and Quinn Gerken, Cassidy and Carly Smith, Thayer and Seth Daniels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marlenn and grandson, Corbin S. Gerken.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, Portage. Rev. Eric McGlade will officiate. Private family burial will be held in Wingston Cemetery Rudolph, Ohio.
Public visitation will begin at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be given in Neil's name to the church, Shriners Children's Hospital or Home Away from Home at St. Vincent Medical Center.
Arrangements are being handled by DUNN FUNERAL HOME, (419-352-2132) located in Bowling Green's Historical District at 408 West Wooster Street.
