Merril Foster Shaffer

Merril Foster Shaffer, 89, of Bowling Green, OH passed away on February 25, 2014 at his home.
He was born on April 29, 1924 in Bowling Green, OH to Herbert and Dadyn (Cheetwood) Shaffer. On January
20, 1951 he married Kathryn Ann Sonner in Toledo, OH and she survives.
Merril served during World War II as a Second Class Radioman in the United States Navy.
Following his military service, he worked at the Rossford Ordnance Depot, self employed as a painter and
finally retiring from the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier.
Throughout his working days as well as his retirement, he remained active with the Faith United Methodist
Church and Troy Webster American Legion Post #240, serving the community through catering.
Merril was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of
dedication to a 63-year marriage, support of his family and endless love of family, friends and life.

He is survived by his loving wife: Kathryn, children: Debra Kay Donaldson, Danny L. and Sandra Shaffer,
Nancy Ann Shaner, Michael D. Shaffer, DO and Kellie Flood-Shaffer, MD, 16 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren, brothers: Frank and Robert, sisters: Deanna Jean and Ardenell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law: Larry Shaner, five brothers and two sisters.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. There will be a service conducted by Troy-Webster
American Legion Post #240 at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday,
February 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. from Faith United Methodist Church, Luckey, OH with additional visitation
from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Peter Johnston.
Interment will be in Webster Twp. Cemetery, Scotch Ridge, OH.
There will be a bereavement luncheon served at Troy-Webster American Legion Post #240, Luckey,
immediately following the cemetery committal services.
The family requests that memorials be given to Faith United Methodist Church in support of the
Scholarship Fund, Troy Webster American Legion Post # 240 in support of Boys State or Troy Webster
American Legion Auxiliary in support of Girls State.
