Mary Louise Coller Johnson passed away peacefully May 2, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born to Verle and Josephine Lincoln Coller on March 22, 1931 in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she lived her entire life. She married Norman David Johnson, son of Howard and Esther Lundy Johnson on September 22, 1950.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She most notably cherished her special friendships with Bev Rutter, Kay Langenderfer and Dr. David Allison. Mary carried with her a great passion for animals, especially her dogs, Nipper and Lexi.
She loved horses and competed in numerous horse shows winning many awards and impressive trophies. Amazingly, she even once rode a bull! Mary took great pride in the equestrian accomplishments of her granddaughters often supplying them with needed tack that she had refurbished as a labor of love. "We've lost an amazing cowgirl today" was overheard shortly after her passing.
Growing up in rural Bowling Green, Mary worked on the family farm caring for the animals she so dearly loved. She was also employed as a secretary at the Portage Stone Quarry, which today is a well-loved recreation club and campground. When her children were older, Mrs. Johnson worked at the Balduf Bakery in Maumee, Ohio. Baking and cooking were one of her favorite hobbies as she was known for the wonderful meals (especially her macaroni and cheese!) she prepared for family get-togethers and holidays.
As on all life journeys, Mary had her share of struggles to overcome. The loss of her son, Douglas Norman, in 1972 was most difficult for her and it gives her family comfort in knowing she is now with him.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman Johnson; children, Marilyn (Tim) Fogle of Nashville, TN, Richard (Becky Burris) of Bowling Green, Brent (Don) of Frederick, MD; and siblings, Harriett Dimick (Jim dec.) of Bowling Green, and James Coller (Max) of Washington, D.C. Also, left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Price of Dayton, OH, Joshua (Jaime) Romaker of Ashland City, TN, Michael (Lexi) Johnson of Bowling Green, Crystal (Josh) Haskins of Bowling Green, Molly Myers of Nashville, TN, Emily Myers of Germantown, OH, and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Addison Yingling, Harbor Price and Isabella and Sofia Romaker.
To honor her life, a memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 13th at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 200 N. Summit St., Bowling Green, OH, 43402.
