Marvin D. Bruning, 91, of Oak Harbor, died Monday evening, June 9, 2014, in Mease Countryside Hospital,
Safety Harbor, Florida, near Clearwater.
He was born October 10, 1922, in Pember-ville, Ohio, to Alfred and Dora (Ernsthausen) Bruning.
Marvin was inducted into the Navy, trained under the Coast Guard, and then served his country in World
War II as a Merchant Marine.
On August 12, 1950, in Pemberville he married Alma D. Snyder and she preceded him in death August 13,
2007.
Marvin worked at the former Brush-Wellman in Elmore, Ohio, for 20 years as an engineer, and in 1993
retired as an independent insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Company.
He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor, where he served as Church Council
President and Sunday School Superintendent.
Marvin and Alma retired to Clearwater, Florida, in 1993.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Kenneth) Starkey of Oak Harbor, Carol "Penny" Butts
of Powell, OH, and Connie Bruning of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Michael (Nancee) Starkey, Matthew
(Nicky) Starkey, Mark Starkey, Martin (Christina) Starkey, Ashlee Witucki and Sherman Butts Jr.;
great-grandchildren, Shelby, Sarah and Samantha Starkey, Taylor Witucki, Brooklynn Starkey, Almalee
"Hayden" Starkey; and siblings, Fran Konz, Merlon Bruning, Rella (Jim) Kehl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alma, son, M. Chris Bruning, granddaughter, Sheryl R.
Butts, brother, Mark Bruning and sister, Bernice Ebert.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home &
Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor.
The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran
Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor.
A luncheon will be served immediately after the service with graveside services to follow at 2:30 p.m. at
Fish Cemetery, New Rochester, Ohio with military honors conducted.
