Loren Franklin Roe, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2012 at home, surrounded by family.
He was the son of George Roe Sr. and Flossie (Hodgman) Roe. He was a lifelong resident of Weston.
On August 5, 1945 he married Ida Mae Bechstein. Earlier this year they celebrated their 67th year of marriage.
Their children include a daughter, Marilyn (Neal) Roller of Godfrey, IL, and a son, Thomas (Norma) Roe of Weston. He also is survived by three sisters: Helen (Denny) Welsh of Virginia, Nancy (Boyd) Case of Findlay and Mary Ann (Bill) Cary of Bowling Green. He will be remembered by six grandchildren: Scott (Nancy) Roe of Dublin, OH; Jenny (Shane) Pransky of Waterville, OH; Nethaneel Roe of Weston; Julia (Ryan) Roller Waterman of San Diego, CA; Karen (Joel) Weststrate of St. Louis, MO; and Craig (Christine) Roe of Detroit. He was the proud great-grandfather of 11: Mikah and Rogan Pransky; Audrey, Nora and Alice Westsrate; Ben and Luke Waterman; Evan and Braden Roe; and Leah and William Roe.
Another beloved son, Michael (Sara) Roe preceded Loren in death, as did his parents and sisters, Margaret (Dale) Heyman, June (Douglas) McKnight, Ula Jean Steuer, Dorothy Miller and brother, George (Vera) Roe Jr.
Loren served in the U.S. Army during World War II as one of the soldiers sent in to bolster the Allied forces in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return, he became a farmer, which became not only his vocation but his lifetime joy. He was a longtime employee of The Andersons Elevator.
Loren was a member of the Weston American Legion Post #409 and was a lifelong member of the Weston United Methodist Church. In addition to farming, he enjoyed spending time with family and traveling.
Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 West Wooster Street, P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, Tele: 419-352-2171. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME REMEMBRANCE CHAPEL. Following the service, Loren will be laid to rest in the Weston Cemetery with Military Honors.
