Leigh Wade Kendrick, of Pemberville, joined Adeline, his wife of 55 years, on April 14, 2014 at the age
of 87.
Leigh peacefully passed away in the company of his children, Martha (Geoffrey) McIntyre, Cathy (Robert)
Begley, and David (Darlene) Kendrick.
Born September 29, 1926 in New Lexington, OH.
He was also preceded in death by sons: James Brian Kendrick, and Jeffrey Hayes (Karen) Kendrick; his
parents: Lydia R. (Chute) and Arthur H. Kendrick; and sister: Norma R. Porter.
Leigh is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Leigh married Adeline I. (Wiegand) on May 1, 1954 in Elmwood Park, IL. She passed away May 18, 2009 in
Toledo, OH.
Turning 18 in the latter days of World War II, Leigh proudly served as a Staff Sergeant stateside in the
U.S. Army supervising the dismantling and storage of weapons at Fort McClellan, AL. He was blessed to
have been a grateful participant on the June 22, 2011 Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio.
He was a 1944 graduate of Norwood High School in Cincinnati, and a 1949 graduate of Bowling Green State
University, majoring in Economics and minoring in Social and Political Sciences, and Health/P. E. These
disciplines were foundational to Leigh’s life-long career with the YMCA both in Chicago and Toledo, and
later as a YMCA capital fund drive consultant.
Returning 19 years ago to his beloved BG, he resided the last two years at Otterbein Portage Valley in
Pemberville.
A faithful church member in every town he and Adeline lived, First Presbyterian Church of BG was his
recent home for walking out his faith through his service as an Elder, Trustee, as well as on various
committees.
Leigh enjoyed woodworking, golf, reading, "noodling," and building: homes, campaigns, and
relationships. He was recognized by all who knew him as a humble man of quiet strength.
A Celebration of a Life of Service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian
Church of BG, 126 Church St. Revs. Mary Jane and Gary Saunders officiating.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice and to the nursing care staff at
Otterbein-Monclova who assisted us daily during this journey the past 4 months.
Memorial gift suggestions are BGSU or First Presbyterian Church of BG.
